Materials Analysis Research Laboratory - Staff |
|---|
MARL is operated by three permanent staff members with over 80 years of combined expertise on the instruments and by several undergraduate research assistants who aid with sample preparation and testing.
Jerry manages the affairs of the lab and has been involved with the lab since 1968. He has been involved with electron microscopy for over 35 years and thermal analysis for over 25 years.

Scott is the lab's resident expert on x-ray techniques. He has extensively employed both x-ray diffraction (XRD) and x-ray fluorescence (XRF) in his research on concrete and fly ash since 1980. He has also picked up skills in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and x-ray analysis (EDS) on the Hitachi microscope for the characterization of air void structure in concrete.

Warren's expertise is in electron microscopy and related techniques. He began his work with scanning electron microscopy and x-ray analysis with the lab's first SEM-EDS system (a JEOL JSM-U3 and EDAX EDS) in 1976. His interest lies as much in integrating and pushing the various techniques as it does in the applying the techniques to particular problems. He also maintains the local area network and Internet servers and is often called upon to assist users in converting and transmitting data and results. |
